25-11-03 > Josh Cohn's new paragliding world record ratified!
On the 25th of November 2003, FAI officially ratified Windtech Team pilot Josh Cohn's incredible world record breaking paraglider flight made in Texas in the USA on the 22nd of June 2003. Josh launched from Edinburg International Airport, Texas, at 10:30am aboard his Windtech Nitro 24, and flew for seven and a half hours in strong conditions to eventually land at Carrizo Springs, Texas, at 6pm - an amazing new 'Straight Distance to a Declared Goal' World Record of 285.2 km (178.25 miles)! Josh said of the day and the flight: "Winds on the day were strong, peaking at around 25mph, both on the ground and at altitude. I had two very low-saves, which were pretty rough with the wind blowing everything apart. Early on cloud base was only 2000m ASL but eventually lifted to about 3000m ASL, and the cloud streets were great!" As well as the fantastic achievement, it is particularly pleasing news for Josh that FAI have ratified his flight, as he has already submitted other World Record flights before, including a 313km (196 mile!) declared goal world record flight in 2002 aboard his Windtech Syncro, only to have FAI turn them down for 'paperwork errors'. This time it looks FAI are happy with his 'homework'! Well done and congratulations, Josh!. Josh said: "Thanks to everyone for their help in making this flight possible, especially Bill Belcourt for staying (and keeping up!) with me on chase. Thanks to Windtech for their great support - I just love the Nitro, what a great glider - and thanks too to Flytec, the new 4030 really helped make it all come together."
