Windtech «TECNO»
The successor to the Tempest retains many of its qualities: good handling, speed, good tension in the leading edge once it is fully accelerated. It is robust and has a well finished construction and has the special floating ribs system in the secondary cells around the leading edge of the glider.
They have changed the profile, taking advantage of the new generation of profiles more stable with its maximum thickness more forward. They have reduced weight in the leading edge dacron pieces and the risers suffered a diet process (now they are thinner, but with a reinforced accelerator line). It has new aesthetic, higher speed and higher stability in dutch roll. The fact is that they have improved a wing that was already very highly classified in its category, and this was not an easy job.
The designer Alvaro Valdes has refined the twist angles, he has elongated a bit the stabilos and he has made better a wing, a wing that is an easy intermediate, safe and great performance wise paraglider. A wing to make xc flights with dignity. It weights almost a kilo less than the Tempest but is still very reinforced, especially in the leading edge and the in the inner structure of v-ribs.
S.A.S. is the acronym for the ribs floating parts in the leading edge of the advanced Windtech wings. This are some reinforcements pockets in the secondary cells with a double fabric in top and bottom surface which gives stiffness without changing the profile at the leading edge. These ones in the Tecno model are lighter and more efficient. Yes, another pillar of its structural cohesion and great tension throughout the speed range and in turbulent air. The trapezoid v-ribs (attached in the middle of the main profiles) are bind to each other with large transversal and horizontal panels. The stabilo is also increased its size by 20cm. This changes the glider tension since they are pulling out the canopy and contributes to the smooth appearance from the surface of the extrados. For the same reason the canopy now is more difficult to collapse and the wing improves in stability and safety. It has a elliptical planform (new aesthetics), line setup every 3 cells, mostly 2-floors (very easy to unravel and prepare before takeoff), but at the wing-tips where it has 3 floors for a better adjustment of the twist and angle of attack.
The new profile has its maximum thickness more advanced. It is the same used in the new wing Arial, now all A certified in the EN certification.
The leading edge is thick and solid (when fully accelerated barely loses its shape). The vault is fairly flat, except in the corners where there is an ellipse which descends toward the cells closed and the small stabilo fully profiled. The twist angle effect have more benefits in the stabilo that in the Tempest and it looks more negative the middle. It has big air in takes, always open for a comfortable inflation. It comes up nicely but does not overshoot the pilot and tolerates a lot of brake without being sensitive to the changes in the load. It is extremely easy to maintain the wing inflated and the brake responds from low speeds. Easy handling on the ground.
«HI-TEC» Thin risers
They are thin (10mm), made out of aramid in the inner section. The are nicely manufactured and aerodynamic. With double aluminum pulley and strong dynemma line for the accelerator. The A is divided (to make big ears) and easily adjust the depth of the tip during the acceleration process. The brake handles are rigid and have magnets. A plastic cover protects the small maillons and prevents openings and an O-ring prevents the lines from moving.
The speed system allows to speed up up to 53km/h when removing the lower pulley and according to the manufacturer it reaches 57km/h in the X-trem Lite version with unsheathed lines. With the serial configuration (certified), you can be speed it up as much as possible with full confidence since the leading edge shows no sign of weakness. But always use it with caution in turbulence or near the ground. Quick but stable, which makes it more usable at high speed.
In flight
Hands up also flies fast and turns quickly. First it turns more slowly but then when you pull the brakes harder and with 30cm of brake input (when not playing with the outside brake) it accelerates and truly begins to turn. This capability allows you to adjust the radio and speed of rotation depending on the momentum of the flight (or descent maneuver). It responds back to you with a lot of good energy. The brake travel is long, a bit heavy but very transmitting. The big ears are not big and you have to use the brakes to reinflate them quickly. They increase 2km/h the glider speed.
When you use half of the speed bar, the glide angle is only decreased by one third, which gives you an idea of how great is this wing to make XC distance and progress. Handling, speed and stability
