01-08-2006 > Tempest wins the X-Cantábrica Open!
Windtech co-director Gabriel Cañada wins the X-Cantábrica Paragliding Open in Spain, flying a Windtech Tempest. Gabriel won the competition with a 75 km cross country flight, and a 20 km walk, taking a total of 8 hours to complete the difficult 100km long course.
Like with the X-Alps, the challenge of the X-Cantábrica Paragliding Open is to walk and/or fly the course in a race against time and other pilots. The take-off point was in Gistredo (El Bierzo) and the goal was at La Becilla, both in the north of Spain

Gabriel said about the flight:

"Conditions were not easy, with a southeast headwind throughout the flight. The Tempest showed the best performance flying against the wind, making it possible to do almost the entire the course in-flight. The toughest part of the competition was walking the last 20 kilometers carrying standard (i.e. not specialist lightweight) paragliding equipment. They are already talking about making a 300 km course next year. For that I will make a ultra-light equipment so I won't kill myself trying it!".
